About Sushil

Sushil Pakala Reddy is from Mumbai, India. He has a Bachelors and Masters degree in Energy Science and Engineering from the university - Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay – Mumbai (2013 batch). He worked with Professor Chetan Singh Solanki in a solar energy startup company, kWatt Solutions Pvt. Ltd. in IIT Bombay. With an aim to make people in India aware about the importance and need of solar energy, he undertook the initiative called “The SunPedal Ride” in 2016 where he rode a solar powered electric bicycle across 9 states and 7424 kms and delivered seminars via public speaking and community engagement on solar energy.
This social cause is also now a Guinness World Record for the longest journey on a motorized bicycle. The ride is listed in the Limca Book of World Records – Longest journey on a solar powered bicycle. He was recognized as one of “50 Most Impactful Green Leaders” – World CSR Day 2017. He authored an ebook about my solar ebike ride experience (Amazon US https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MRZZK59 - Amazon IN https://www.amazon.in/dp/B01MRZZK59).
To extend his solar awareness and promotion cause in France, he is touring on a solar electric bike in France in June 2017 for 2000 kilometres while visiting universities and holding seminars/presentations.

About his talk

As far as solar energy is concerned, there are exciting times ahead for India. The Government of India launched Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission, under which the target is now to generate 1,00,000 MW of solar power in India by the year 2022 which is expected to create 1.3 million job opportunities in India. Currently, there exists only approximately 9,000 MW of installed solar power in India and the number of skilled solar technicians in India is approximately 1,00,000. There is a huge gap in skilled manpower and creating awareness about solar energy amongst people is one of the ways in bridging it.
The International Solar Alliance initiative by France and India together is an alliance of more than solar rich 120 countries to ensure co-operation to promote solar energy and protect the environment.
Sushil Pakala Reddy will be talking about the following 4 topics in the seminar/presentation:
1. Global Energy Scenario (with facts and figures)
2. Solar Energy Scenario - India and the West - Opportunities and Challenges
3. My Solar ebike ride experience in India (including a short video)
4. Solar energy trends across the world - Future projections
This presentation will be of one hour duration including a short Q&A session/interaction. It is open to all.

That's it !

Sushil Pakala Reddy and Rajendra Bhaskar, student of IIT Bombay who is with him for the ride, stopped over in Bordeaux. Some of us had the opportunity to meet them and to interact on their past and future projects. Many thanks to them for this great moment spent in their company. Few souvenirs :)
